Centrifuge maintenance and upkeep

Release Time: 2022-08-25

If a centrifuge has not been used for a long time, a professional should inspect the centrifuge rotor and rotor before it is used again. Before each use, repeatedly check whether the rotor chuck and centrifuge cup chuck are aligned, and strictly adhere to the speed limit of the rotor. Do not interchange rotors of different models. For temperature-controlled centrifugation (e.g., nucleic acid testing samples need to be centrifuged at 2-8℃), turn on the centrifuge in advance and wait until the centrifuge reaches the required temperature before use.

Principles of Centrifuge Use
● Before using the centrifuge, the operator should carefully read the instrument's operating instructions.
● The centrifuge should be placed on a stable and sturdy surface, and the centrifuge should be kept level to prevent machine vibration during centrifugation.
● The centrifuge must be operated after placing the centrifuge tubes. Empty operation is strictly prohibited.
● Select the appropriate rotor and control the rotor speed.
● During use, pay attention to whether the speed, relative centrifugal force, and centrifugation time meet the requirements.
● After each use, pay attention to cleaning the inside of the rotor to maintain balance.
● Pay attention to pre-cooling treatment.

Precautions for Centrifuge Operation
● When using a centrifuge, balance the centrifuge tubes and their contents on a balance. An odd number of tubes cannot be loaded into the rotor. When the rotor is only partially loaded, the tubes must be placed symmetrically in the rotor.
● When loading blood samples, follow the specific operating instructions of various centrifuges. Some centrifuge tubes must be capped to prevent blood from splashing out during centrifugation, causing rotor imbalance, contamination, rust, or corrosion inside the centrifuge.
● If temperature-controlled centrifugation is required, the centrifuge should be turned on in advance for pre-cooling, and used when the required temperature is reached.
● Do not leave the centrifuge unattended during centrifugation. Observe whether the instruments on the centrifuge are working normally. If there are any abnormal sounds, stop the machine immediately, check, and troubleshoot.
● The centrifuge body should always be kept level, the external power supply voltage should match, and a good grounding wire is required.
● Before turning on the power, check whether the rotor is securely installed and whether any foreign objects have fallen into the chamber.
● When the centrifuge is running, there should be no people or dangerous objects within 30cm of the centrifuge.

Centrifuge Maintenance
● The rotor should be cleaned and disinfected regularly (determined by the frequency of use). If there are any splashes during centrifugation, clean all splashes in the centrifuge chamber as soon as possible.
● When cleaning and disinfecting, first disconnect the power and select an appropriate neutral disinfectant (such as 75% ethanol solution) to wipe.
● When wiping the centrifuge chamber, be gentle to avoid damaging the temperature sensor inside the chamber.
● If any abnormality occurs during the use of the centrifuge, turn off the power immediately and ask relevant professionals for repair. After each operation, record the usage status and regularly inspect the performance of the machine.
● The rotor chuck and centrifuge cup chuck should be cleaned and oiled regularly to prevent rust or failure to meet centrifugation requirements.

After moving the centrifuge, check its level. Equipment that is not leveled can damage the drive mechanism. Preventive maintenance after moving can prevent many problems and ensure the accuracy of the equipment.
